A Couple Of Very Special Arrivals.
I have been waiting patiently for a long time to get my hands on one of these. Now I not only have one, but I have two of these amazing aquacultured clams :D

I am sure a lot of you know where they are from. But for those who don't, they are from "Acro Al" in Perth. I believe he is the first in the world to successfully breed some types of Tridacna Clams.

I have got two of his Crocea Clams, which is also the only source of legally sold Crocea Clams in Australia as you can't take them from the wild.

These guys are tiny, at about 4cm - 5cm long but they are stunning. It will be great watching them grow in my tank.
I managed to get a half decent picture on my phone but I plan on trying to get a decent picture with my DSLR in the future!

Nice pickup !!

Any trouble with the delivery? I assume it was airport to airport?
Yeah airport to airport. The plane was a few hours late but the clams wouldn't have been in the bag for more than 10 -12 hours.
They were opening up in the bag while I was acclimatising them and were fully open in my tank in no time at all.

also Aboriginals are allowed to collect, and sell, clams in Aus I believe. It is their land so they should be allowed to use the resources to their benefit.

cultured clams in the states are quite cheap also

Thanks, that is very interesting. I have got one of the aquacultured Squamosa Clams from the NT too, in the "tiger" pattern.
I think I read he was the first to do this in captivity in a closed system. I am not sure of the process where they have been bred in other places.
I am hoping the prices come down here too once these clams start maturing with the numbers in the thousands.

Stunning mate.

I got one a blue with gold from acro al about 4 months ago. Absolute stunner too.

Was small too but it has since nearly doubled in size. Cant wait for it to get larger.

Maxima were cultured in a closed system in France and Polynesia in the 90's. Regardless it is a good effort and good that we have opportunity to get these clams.

The prices will change with supply and demand like all things.
