Anthias are beautiful, if you like ditzy and simple fish. I'd call myself an appreciator... but not so much of the common ones. Most of my favourites are either deepwater, or not of the Pseudanthias genus - there's a lot of really awesome ones that don't ever get seen simply because we're not regularly exposed to them like we are, say, Lyretails and Dispars for instance. That's not to say those have no place... but I think anyone with an appreciation for the common kinds would be floored by some of the more obscure species. When I'm not on my phone I'll have to post some, there's some real hidden treasures.

Since were talking about Anthias and not particularly Pseudanthias, I love the look of these guys, Splended Pearch (Callanthias australis)

The photo doesn't do them justice to when you see them in life, especially after the have just been pulled out of the water and have their full suite of excited colours glowing!

And now for the main event... the non-Pseudanthias Anthias!

Tosanoides filamentosus (excuse the shitty photo, but when you can take awesome photos of an incredibly rare, tiny, and lightning fast fish at ~65m, let me know)

There's a bunch more, but owing to most of them being either newly described or deepwater, finding photos of them is the impossible dream. Either way, that's a little taste of what else exists within the Anthiinae subfamily.

Would love to see a tank full of these little guys. Some very pretty fish indeed. :)
Well... at the last rates I'd heard for the ones in question, to get a single specimen of each species would cost you... $43,680 if you were lucky. Though, the bulk of that price does come from the last few...

Pseudanthias elongatus
They're something a bit special eh? It's a shame we don't see them here. Silly Asia ruining our fun!

Haha, I mean all up would be 44k. A few on the list have gone for close to 10k a throw. Which, actually, for rare fish is pretty cheap. There's been certain rare (and I use that in a literal sense, not the aquarium trade OMG I WANNA MAKE SOME CASH SO HAVE SOME SUPERLATIVES OMG!!!!! rare) deepwater Chaetodontidae that've been ballparked at $100k as a starting bid, so when you think about it, $10k for a fish isn't that unreasonable!

I would love one of these but being such a schooling type fish I'm not sure that it would be fair to have one in a normal 3ft tank...What do you guys think?

If you can pony up the cash for them, you can front it for a suitable system. Put it that way ;)

Don't you worry, I've been doing the power costs maths in my head of 4x2x2 tank again...would have to investigate whether I could transfer current equipment to it...meaning the same power costs as I have now..eg skimmer heater etc
