The tank is an AquaOne 6ft and comes with aluminium trim around its base and top. I don't like the trim at the top and prefer the rimless look so I've emailed AquaOne to ask them if the aluminium top trim is structural and if it can be removed. I also double checked with them if the glass could be drilled a few weeks ago too. They state the aluminium trims aren't structural and they can be removed. So.....

I had a go at removing the trim but the dam stuff is siliconed on with superglue, concrete and every utterly permanent glue known to man. It simply won't come off unless I totally break the glass! And chip the glass I did. :(

So, I had to leave the trim on and sand down the edges of the tiny chips I created. Dam!!!!

I don't mind the top trim, you may of found the glass is not finished that well anyway and could of posed a safety risk.

Agree with @Rob - trims are often used to hide things which could be worse than the trim :rolleyes

Yep, in retrospect it was probably safer on anyway and as you say, the top edge was probably going to be sharp anyway.
