Deltec Sc1660 Vs Rlss R6i Skimmers
Hello knowledgeable people,

I was hoping that some of you may be able to please help me in my decision.
I am considering the two skimmers below for a 500L or so tank, it will be heavily stocked and am leaning towards the Deltec as it is recommended for 1000L but since it is rated for such a larger system would it still skim effectively in a 500L? Also any advice experience or opinions on these skimmers would be greatly appreciated.
Deltec SC1660
RLSS R6i

Thank you all for taking the time to read this and hopefully some of you guys have some replies for me :)

Take Care and enjoy your day

Both contain Chinese pumps both are great skimmers, I would take the wine shaped one for its shape as this is a proven effective design and it has a diffuser plate.

As far as being too effective, a skimmer can only take out what's in the water to skim. With light feedings you might not collect much skim for a week, if you go heavy feeding or stir up your sand bed you could expect the collection cup to fill quicker.

Care to list the specs of these units @kronyk

RLSS has my vote.

Based on those numbers I would not get the 1455.

Liters/ hr air is a big factor that makes a good skimmer. The dissolved particles in the water get stuck to the air bubbles also a skimmer is useful for helping air/gas exchange with regards to maintaining ph.

It's a close call , my money would still go to the RSLL.
I'm sure there are a few who might have these two in thier sump @Wrangy

I'm running an sc1455 in a 650l lightly stocked.
Heaps of people run this skimmer and there's probably a good reason why

I absolutely love my R6 :) It's a beast of a skimmer and has worked like a dream for the last three years! Pulls quality gunk, easy to adjust and tune and it is easy to take apart, clean and have looking brand new :) I would definitely recommend the R6 from my experience but at the same rate you will NOT go wrong with SC1455 as well :) One of the best tanks in Aus uses it on their 750L tank :)

I know that this is an old thread and I'm not on this forum much, but wanted to post (so anyone doing a comparison can see this review) as I have great experience with the Deltec SC 1660, which is basically just a little bit bigger version of the 1455. The Deltec's are in a line of their own actually. They pull a much different profile of DOC's and other stuff out of the water than other skimmers, based on their needle wheel pump. I have been super impressed with using the 1660 in my tank (135 plus a 60 frag) setup. It can pull massive amounts of dry skimmate out, or I can make it super wet and dark too. It takes care of most of the junk in my tank just by itself without even using the other reactors (just keep all of the others there as safeguards really). Anyway, my $0.02 on the conversation. Kronyk, hope you went Deltec!
