I just finished giving my skimmer a good clean and cleaned some of the buildup that was gathering in the sump.
I used 2 old filter bags - the nylon type that I don't use anymore because they glog up too quickly - and put some tight elastic in the tops so that they snap over my inlets.
With all the disturbance in the sump, these bags caught all the detritus that would have been pumped back into the DT.
Just give them a rinse and they're good to go next time.

I have done something similar with filter socks over the spouts, I think your way is easier though! Next time I go to the pet shop I might buy a stash of bags. Maybe I'll just order some online.
