Finally
it has taken a ridiculous amount of effort on my husband's part... But we finally have a date. I'll be having a disc replacement on my lumbar spine on April 30. I am so grateful that he is who he is and has the skills to manage people that don't come naturally to me. Yesterday we were being told it could be April, May, June... They didn't know... But now we have a real date.

So I can finally talk to my work about appropriate leave and we can go forward to try to borrow the money to cover the surgery and my time off. I only have a few weeks worth of leave and we have to cover the income I won't have and subsequent car payments etc. I'm contemplating up to 6 months off work just to really stop and rest. It was the pain specialist who suggested it. ... We have been given a rough figure of $12,000 for the neuro and vascular surgeons required. We don't have that kind of money. We recently renegotiated our mortgage with a new provider but we will try to adjust the amount to cover this. I suggested to my husband that if we could, we ought to borrow enough to redo our kitchen and bathroom as they are both in very poor condition at the moment. There is a hole in my kitchen plasterboard ceiling and wall from where I removed the pantry months ago. I have been waiting for a drawer runner which seemingly will never come. Who knows?! They might not let us go that high... But we'll get some quotes and things to put it to them anyway. Right now, a hotch potch kitchen thrown together over the years with circumstance changes and a bathroom that's quite possibly going to kill someone with unkillable mould or electrocution will have to do.

Oh yeah... I'll be having my surgery in Sydney because it's so hard to get the doctors needed up here. I'm a bit anxious about it given it's a hospital I don't know well and a large one at that. I'm glad we have a date.
