Have you seen? - Classifieds
Hello everyone,

It has come to our attention that a lot of members at The Reefuge do not know many of the features of this site exist, or do not know how to use them to make their time spent here more enjoyable. When things like this come up, we are going to post "Have you seen?" threads. These threads will explain how to go about using certain features of the website. To start it off, we are going to show you how to use the classifieds forum correctly.

First of all, the seven latest updates are able to be viewed from the forum homepage. On the right you will see "Classifieds" with a list below it. These are the latest 7 updated posts throughout the classifieds section. You can quickly access the Classifieds section by clicking the title "Classifieds" in the right panel. The "Classifieds" link is also available in the navigation menu.

Classifieds

The classifieds are broken up into two main groups. For Sale and Requested Items. Within these groups are sub-categories that are identical in each main group. So, if you are selling an item, you simply go to the "For Sale" category and select which forum your items fits in. You have a choice of;

Livestock - Fish, Coral, Algae, etc
Consumables - Additives, Food, etc
Hardware - Pumps, Skimmers, etc

This is a simple enough step to select which category your item falls into. If you are in need of something, you do the exact same thing but request it in the "Requested Items" group, again, placing it in the correct category.

When you post a new thread, you will see you are able to add a prefix to your thread. The prefix is for location purposes only. If the item must be picked up as you are not able to deliver, simply add your states prefix when creating the thread. This will allow other users to see that you are located in another state, delivery is not available, and thus move on. It also allows users in your state to easily find you without the need to look through ads that will not be suited for them.

There is also a prefix named "Shipping". This prefix is for users who are willing to ship their product to other states. It IMPLIES that pickup is available, but it confirms that they are willing to ship.

As a user browsing the classifieds, you are able to easily filter out things you do not wish to see. At the top of each sub-category (the listings), you will see all of the available prefix's. By clicking on your states prefix, it will filter out all other listings and only show ads that are in your state. All other states are filtered out and will not show up in the listings.

You can also click on "Shipping" and that will filter out all other listings. It will only display the ads that are willing to ship their products to your house. This is handy as it will not force you to view other listings that you are not able to be picked up, or that are not willing to ship.

Thanks.

One suggestion - could you rename the forums to include whether wanted or requested? I like I think many users tend to browse this forum frequently enough that 'latest posts' accounts for 95% of navigation, and it is therefore impossible to know unless the title is clear whether 'NSW: Livestock' means for sale or would like to buy.

I'd also consider combining Hardware and Consumables ... maybe into 'Inanimate objects'? :D

Im with chimaera, I only browse the site from the latest posts button and would be nice if the classifieds title was more specific.
