So, for lighting a 3x2x2 mixed reef? one 3ft Cree unit or two 2ft units? Polar or Cree? S? C? P?
So many options ;)

Polar would be competant for up to 2 foot deep for lps. Personally I would go a three foot S Master if you were tank mounting it. And being mixed reef go for Cree.

Master alc 1200 with optics should be sufficient,
I'm putting a 600 c unit on my 900 tank,

Or you could go
3x 600 units, ?

Forgot to mention the s model has a higher white to blue ratio and the c model has a higher blue to white ratio,

So it will depend if your going an SPS dominated tank , Or a LPS dominated one .
You will also need the Cree version at 750mm deep

Well I like LPS but having said that I would want to be able to grow 1 x staghorn, 1 x birdsnest and a couple of plate types (montis?)

As far as I'm. Aware, you can't do sunrise or sunset, or dim the LEDs,
Master is definitely the way to go,
As far as I am aware you can make it a ALC unit with an upgrade later, but it would be cheaper to get a master to start with,

Really don't know, just seems to be one of the supposed selling points of one brand so as a noob thought there must be a reason for this

might be like the old maxspecs. their leds allways seemed to fail so they constantly needed to be replaced...

I think I know what Sven is getting at here - lets say in 12 months time a new LED is produced which is 1000% more efficient that those currently available, or it is determined that the UV leds used are killing corals (I am just making up these examples for the purpose of this post !!). Can Illumagic issue a replacement component to easily upgrade the fixture or are you stuck with what you buy ??

The new Advance is now modular, which means this will facilitate easy led panel replacement. 2011 ALC controllers can be upgraded to Advance controllers..... Early basic versions, in the days before we had ALC, even those were able to be upgraded to ALC.

Illumagic have always considered their customers and do their best to make modular components that can be upgraded to current features as progression takes place.....
