I agree with you, there are jobs that only men can do. When I did landscaping, if the ground was really hard, the guys would use their shovels and arm strength to get through it. I had to use a crow bar & then my shovel. It's just the way it is. We also used to do a lot of lifting that wouldn't be allowed now with OHS laws cracking down. That has equalised things a lot when it comes to women being able to perform traditionally male jobs. What I'm saying is, I still deserve the same pay as them, even if I can't do the job as well - otherwise they shouldn't have hired me in the first place.

Not that it really pissese off, but I'm not sure why this forum has a Halloween theme.

And I'm also not sure why Australians feel the need to fall into "celebrating" it.

Hello @Cosby,

Every year The Reefuge adds little things to the site for special days. Easter, Christmas, April Fools and Halloween all get their own edits made. It's just for a bit of fun.

Thanks.

I like Halloween and wish it was celebrated more. Yes it's a fucking odd 'celebration' to have, but arguably no more so than Christmas.

Is this just the 'anti-Americanism' of so many Aussies coming through? Halloween actually originates in the UK ... the yanks just took it to a whole new level :p

I think in Australia its just very under done. Last night there was a wall of Halloween baked goods heavily discounted at Safeway because no one had bought it out - that amused me quite a bit. And who wants to eat a bright orange muffin made to look like a veiny eyeball?

My experience with it is having the occasional dressed up kids come to the door and say trick or treat - most households aren't prepared for it and just say, sorry kids, got nothing for you. I'd call that a flop. :p

ME! :D

Agree with the trick or treating though .. in the UK you would always have some candy/chocolates ready, even though in London I never trusted the kids that would come around so would often make sure I was out for hte night haha.

Hey Pete, you want it to be celebrated more......isn't a month long enough? ha!

And no, it's not just the anti-American in me. I'm anti-most things. :)

In fact, I was thinking about it the other day, my arch enemy would probably be a vegan christian smoker cyclist who writes folk music.

haha, I'm talking about the whole concept, not the theme on the site.
The people making $$$ out of it are the same ones who make a mint out of Valentines Day, Mothers Day, Fathers Day & all those other days invented to make a big Ego-statement about how you feel.....

Many of my spiritual beliefs are of pagan origin so I am as disappointed in the commercialisation of Samhain as a Christian is by the same treatment of Easter & Christmas. I dont like the Americanisation & bastardisation of Samhain and so ignore it. Yes, its a celebration - but most people dont know what of or why & to my mind, you should know WHY you are doing something.
just my 2c :)
