So I have been pretty busy since the last update. Everything was growing great until my vacation earlier this year. Not sure exactly what happened but when i got back pretty much everything was dying. I think i have stabilized the tank but i lost a lot of my hammers, my rics were floating off and a few zoa colonies.

Oh well so here is my update on the long road to recovery =)

A few of the colonies have died off and only a few polyps are left.

Few of the mushroom want to commit suicide by floating off the rock. Here are what's left.

My precious yellow (to the right) has all closed up. A few of the polyps are starting to open again. Hopefully they will recover.

Thank you for your kind words but the tank is very bare now. What i missed most are the hammers. They give the tank some life by moving around.

Can you tell us how your tank was left for the vacation? Did you have automation for feeding, filling etc? Did you have a person stepping in to care for the system on your behalf? Just be interesting to know so the rest of us can learn how to cope with stretches where we might need to go away.

I left for four weeks. A few days before I left I did a large water change. I have an automatic fish pellet feeder and auto top up of RO water. So pretty much everything is automatated except for feeding the corals and dosing amino. Which I got my cousin to come by twice a week to do it. On hind sight I should have just gotten my cousin to top up the RO bucket instead of trying to feed and dose.

Two weeks into my vacation my cousin said that my fridge where I kept my frozen food and amino acid was broken but he moved it to his fridge. So I thought all was good but this is what might have caused the decline. Since he only came by twice a week the fridge could have been broken for a few days before he noticed. I did not see any left over fish food but I did notice the amino acid smells really bad when I came back. So I think either the food and/or the food has gone bad and he kept feeding it to the tank.

I think by the time I came back I damage was done. So I did a lot of water changes to clean up the tank and the dying continues until a month ago.

So moral of the story is just get your carer to top up the RO if you get any one to look after your tank.
