I'm not worried about the running costs as it's something I can manage. It's just the replacement costs but knowing you go 18months is a massive bonus to getting t5's!
So an 8x 24w sun power would be more than enough for sps and clams throughout the tank?

10 is a massive unit lol
easily you dont understand how much par these thinks punch. and the spread is huge 60cm unit will easily do 75 a few cm from the water

tubes are cheap if you buy at the right time. I did an unusual trip to williamstown the other day (don't normally go there, but was passing by) and picked up 4 80w ATI tubes for $38 a piece ;)

have you considered this from pac sun?
Models with 75W LED panels made in SMT technology:

  • Pandora Hyperion S 75W + 2x24W T5 - cover area up to 100x80x80cm
or

New series Pandora Hyperion S with 8pcs T5 tubes:

  • Pandora Hyperion S 75W + 8x24W T5 - cover area up to 100x100x80cm
As 2 fixtures are not the most attractive

Those new 8 bulb fixtures are amazing, if I got one of those it would be instead of an upgrade lol I'd restart the tank and run one of them over it until I actually upgraded haha

Yeah I wouldn't be doing two units. If the Pac Sun is out of reach price wise, I would look at ATI despite some losing favour with them, assuming you are convinced of the T5 route.

Hmm 990EUR, not as steep as I thought they might be.
I had a look and they're about $1600 to get the 8 bulb 24w light with 75w led here including shipping so it's not too bad
Maybe if I sell my lights and some corals I could afford it :rolleyes

They are a super sexy fixture. I am suddenly considering one myself ... haha.

Is $1600 direct from PacSun?

I'll get one if you do haha group buy maybe? :p

Yep direct from their eu website, €1,099 for the lights and €65 shipping to my address when I pretended to checkout to see shipping costs lol so €1,150 total which I'd roughly $1600 Aussie

Hmm on an RTAW post a rep said they would be 990EUR, so maybe the price went up.

Not likely to happen in the next few months, I am about to give the Australian Government almost 5 figures as a bribe to stay in the country ... o_0

Just joined in... Great read so far...

Go full blown T5 and give me a wink in three months time.
Aim for 8 tubes if possible.

My led unit has retired to under the bed. Anyone need a three foot LED?

haha is it really that much more amazing! I'm glad, maybe I will for a little while.
I might still get a hybrid though as no one aside from ATI offer a large T5 setup, I'm loving the Pac sun so far though but if I got one of those this will turn into a tank restart and wait to upgrade given their price lol

Lol coming from an old led preacher, funny all the ppl who preach about led have never owned a t5 (mtg etc) the second they get one they never look back.
