Hahah, there ain't much money in computers unless you're a manager, code monkey or DBA these days.
Saturation of people prepared to work minimum wage, too many kids doing IT certs at TAFE who can afford to live on sub $40k a year wages and little value left in the experience experienced techs have unless they're going for management roles has pretty much fucked that up as an industry worth getting into. If you're lucky, you might make it into an organisation that doesn't pay minimum wage, does rely on you having real experience, and occasionally might give you some opportunities to do something useful.
Either specialise or go become a plumber or an electrician. I had plans on becoming a psychologist... seriously.. should have stayed that course!
