Stand. Built.
I picked up everything but the tank last week and unfortunately I had to go to Bali for a week only hours after... I know right..
Haha I swear my life is not normally like this.
I got home and last night managed to get the stand built and ready.
First of all when I ordered the tank I had the option of the normal Elos stand or the Absolute stand.
I though about the pros and cons for a long time, went back and forth and finally decided on the absolute stand despite the cost.
I'm so glad I did because as I assembled it last night I couldn't believe my excitement over an aquarium stand!
I didn't have much info to go off as to what it would be like but it exceeded my expectations every step of the way.
I'll let the pictures do the talking but basically the stand consists of a stainless steel structure in gloss black. The rear panel, front panels and doors attach via brackets and stainless screws. The side panels which unexpectedly are hand polished and varnished blew my mind away when I unpacked them they are that nice. These attach view magnets on the panels and as the stand is stainless they've used a magnet screwed to the stand.
The nice touch I like is that the side and back panels fit in between the stainless structure and leave an exposed edge of the stainless gloss black viewable.
I've always thought how cool an exposed stand would look and this kind of meets it half way.
If you've read all this you've probably gathered how happy I am with it :D
Haha anyway... PICS!

wow that is clean! The frame itself looks light?! I think it's just our perception from seeing lots of locally made ones that exceed requirements by ten fold :P

Haha as I was unwrapping it I thought where's the rest of it?!
The stainless legs and cross bars are 5mm thick and L shaped so no square tube like would normally be used.
I've never had to look into building a stand but what do people use for a 400-500L tank? Square tube with 2.5mm walls? If so it's the same as the 5mm here I guess.
Each leg Is basically half of a 5mm thick, 30mm square tube.

I was thinking the same. It looks great but the ones we build have way more metal to them and we don't feel we're overkilling.
Yup it's certainly different to what we're used to. I guess they did the engineering and made sure it would be enough.
Interestingly all Elos tanks have always sat on their stands with just the two sides supporting the weight.
On my mini and with all their tanks it's just the two side panels holding the tank up, the top panel or as mine has the cross bar doesn't support any weight just helps with rigidity.

I'm sure it is up to the task, ELOS don't just slap things out to market and we have never heard of one of their stands buckling. Like I said, I reckon it just highlights how OVER engineered our locally built stands are :)

Yup I agree :D

Should be a good day today, picking up the tank and hopefully getting it up on the stand tonight. Just have to drain some of the mini and scoot it across out of the way!
