White Haddoni Anemone
Against the literature and facts on potential white corals/anemone's, as bleached/sick, I'm hopeful to have recently purchased a white haddoni.

It was recently collected in Karratha, WA, and at the LFS within 4-5 days. The LFS is a specialised marine ONLY shop, arguably the best in WA. There were other haddoni's within the batch that were a vibrant green, so was confident all the anemones were of its natural colour. The person I purchased it wasn't too familiar with haddoni's and their colour morphs etc..

The anemone has a dark/tan body, and looks like in perfect health...only the tips are white....

The purple & blue haddoni on this pic, shares this characteristics of ONLY the tip of the tentacles being coloured, whilst its body is tan/brown.

It's eating, and extremely sticky, and after 2-3 weeks in my tank, the white has actually intensified.

Cool. I am skeptical about white being its natural colour but I am no anemone expert so I'll remain open minded :D

Totally, 99.99% of research claims all white corals are bleached. I LOVE my odds at 0.01% LOL

With the multitude of colours in corals/anemones, WHY not WHITE ???

Does it have that little bit of blue or is that just light or reflection from the other carpet?

I'm rooting for you! Also hopeful that it is more than a 0.01% chance as that specimen does look mighty healthy.

On the chance that it does develop a different colour, you never know - could get a rainbow haddoni!

Just an update .....3 weeks on, the "white" haddoni has settled extremely well, and has grown approx. 20%-30%. All anemones looking great, and tank's flourishing...couldn't be happier:-)

Hate to dampen your enthusiasm but my money is on a bleached Haddoni.
There are degrees of bleaching and pure white all over, is the final stage.

Of course it depends on the original colour of the anemone eg an intense red will often transition to a bright, translucent fluro pink, eventually becoming paler if the cause of the bleaching is left unmanaged. Keep feeding it, but the anemone may or may not colour up again.

If it does return to its natural colour the transition should be interesting to watch as the expelled zooxanthellae give a tan brownish sheen in areas while they repopulate. Then the colour begins to return, ultimately intensifying until you have the full natural colour.

HTH and good luck!

Yes, the odds are against me. A few signs of a struggling anemone is loss of tentacles, inability to hold it's shape, open mouth etc.... It's been 5-6 weeks, coloration/depth has improved, demonstrated growth, and extremely sticky & feeds perfectly .... having other haddoni's to compare and observe it's behaviour, the hope remains. Visiting a Haddoni collector today (woohoo !), and will seek his opinion.

Met with the license collector today, and had a great discussion on 1st hand experiences and knowledge of the habitat and the symbiotic relationships of the haddoni's etc.... Showed him pics, and he's confident it's not bleached/sick, and didn't appear too surprise of a white haddoni....mentioned that he's on the hunt for the elusive black haddoni !!!!! 1st dibs PLEASE :-)

What type of lights and if you're running LEDs, what percentage are you running them at?

What I think happened to that poor Carpet is he got too hot for too long and lost a good portion of his algae. The BIGGEST mistake I see people make with bleached corals or anemones is that they don't feed them or they feed them wrong. Small feedings every other day is what I do. More isn't necessarily better for our marine pets. I've brought back some crispas that were in terrible shape this way. And I'll come down there and fight ya for that black haddoni, lol!
