It's our Birthday tomorrow!
They said we would never last.

Hello everyone,

Well, it seems like it was just last week when we set up this site with the default "Main Forum". A single forum on a board with nothing but a default design and zero posts. Within a few short days there were a whole bunch of new members roaming the forums, posting, slowly adding content to a site that was still in a pre-release stage.

After adding various forums and giving the site a bit of a renovation The Reefuge was ready to go. On the 29th of August, 2011 the site officially was declared stable and gave access to search engines to start indexing our content.

Since then we have grown. We have evolved. We have, as a community, built what I consider to be the friendliest, brothers in arms, open and free, technologically advanced reef aquarium community on the Internet. With the countless hours invested into this site, not just by the staff but the members, we have built something unique, original and what seems to be what many of you call your Internet home.

When The Reefuge first launched there were many users, who to this day doubted that we will last. However, in six months the site grew, it made changes, content was added and new features were being added on a regular basis. This not only allowed us to use the best in website technology, but it allowed us to bring something fresh to the reefing community in Australia.

Now, twelve months down the road we each come here what seems to be daily to talk to our friends, have a bit of a joke and talk about reefing. The site is growing at a good pace, new features are being implemented and members seem happy to be part of this community.

We would like to thank every member who has helped shape this community into what it is today. Without our members The Reefuge would not exist as the great place it is today. As long as you all stay the same and help each other out on a regular basis (as we saw with the State Groups meeting), we will continue to work on the geeky parts of the site.

Starting on the 1st of September, 2012 The Reefuge is going to have a full time SEO staff member to get us to #1 on Google. This will mean a lot more visitors and in turn a lot more members.

Now that the boards skin is almost complete, the remaining 10% of the website is going to be finished. This will be released in the very near future. After that, we are going to leave the sites look alone for a while and focus on giving members better, more advanced features such as proper Tank Journals, frequent Articles and a powerful information database.

As stated from the very start, The Reefuge is always going to be free for members regardless of the services we offer. Keep an eye out for new features as you have not seen anything yet. Now that the framework is complete the fun is just getting ready to start.

On behalf of The Reefuge, we would like to thank all of the members who keep content on this site fresh. We are very lucky to have each and every one of you here. We would like to thank the Content Team who puts in a great effort into new content for the world to freely access and ask nothing in return. I would also like to thank the moderators for donating their time and effort into helping this site run.

This really is a community that relies on itself to run. For this we are all very thankful and honored.

Thanks.
