Sump Media For The Rack
Hi all as you know im setting up this reef rack. As its my first attempt at a larger reef i have a question about the sump media.
I currently have Bioballs in there but i was wondering if i should change these out with some live rock and a light to get some more pods growing. Or could i use some scoria?
Below is a pic of my sump as it is.

Personally I would remove balls.
they can become detritus traps and not deep enough to grow denitrifying bacteria anyway.
Live rock would be a good choice, marine pure or matrix stones would also do a good job.
macro section would also help in removal of nitrates and phoshates.

Try to stay away from anything that you cant keep clean, rinsed every so often. Its important in removal of build up skum and helps keep nitrates down.

If tank is alredy up and running you will need to remoe slowy and replace, don't remove all at once.

Hope this helps a little.

Good luck into saltwater adventure.

Is there any issues with starting with bioballs the as i can afford adding in matrix and taking some bioballs out?
