Hard Reboot
Despite my best efforts, the few remaining corals are not doing well (fish are all fine) so I'm going to restart almost from scratch, still with this old tank of mine.
I'm setting up a 100 litre holding tank & I'll be transferring my fish & any corals remaining over to it. I'll transfer just enough substrate to keep my cucumbers happy and a couple of pieces of the best live rock. All my remaining substrates (I have a lot stored in sealed buckets) is to be dumped in my chook pen. I've come to the conclusion that no matter how well I clean it, it's just too much of a nutrient sink. I'm thinking of using crushed marble in the next reincarnation.
All my remaining rock is to be pressure washed with fresh rain water from our 30000 gallon holding tank. It's been on the property for 70 years roughly and we only use it for the garden normally, anyway then the rock will be dried in the sun & go through a 4 week cleaning process. I'm going to put it in a 60 litre bin with a bag of GFO, a 20000 LPH powerhead and RODI, I'll change out the entire contents of the RODI water twice a week for the four weeks. Hopefully this will remove most of any PO4 the rock has absorbed. I'll keep testing the water with the Hanna egg to how it progresses.
I hope some of you will join me for the ride with Resurrection #3.
