The Overly Long Overdue Update
Hey all! So apparently it's been about a year and half since I updated this journal thread. You can tell from previous photos that I've lost a lost of corals in that time.
I'll keep it short - basically, I got really sick late-ish 2015 and had to quit my job, was housebound waiting for specialist appointments and I had no energy to look after my tank. Care fell to my boyfriend, who did a pretty good job, but it was lacking that special attention.. Some corals just killed each other, others died from lack of care. Others showed me they could probably live in petrol.
In that time, the pump died, was replaced by something different, so the flow was off, and I think that contributed to things going downhill. It took months before I replaced it with the proper Aqua Medic pump. I also had to replace the impeller in the skimmer, as that had been playing up too.
Anywho, I'm on medication now, energy is back (it's nothing serious) and I've been trying to get the tank happy for the last few months.
It's a constant battle against green hair algae. I do water changes 1-2 times a week, sometimes more than 50%, stir the gravel, move everything, upset everyone and it's a nightmare.
It's also Aiptasia Paradise, which is kinda like Gansta's Paradise, but not as catchy. I have stuff for that, I just haven't killed the current occupants. Green hair algae is my current enemy.
Today is the happiest it's been for a while. The arrangement is temporary. I don't like anything touching the monster ricordea, but I was feeling a bit shit and wanted it done asap yesterday arvo.
I haven't got a phosphate test kit but we dose with Blue Life PhosRX which does help pulling the green hair algae from the rocks easier.
Arrghh, I accidentally hit submit, so I'll just upload the photo and shut up! @_@
Anywho! All I want is a tank where I don't have to rearrange to stir the gravel, upset everyone, and let things grow :p
Thank you all for reading! :)
