Will work well to control algae and any bacterial blooms that can discolour water.

It will kill some yes, but a clarifier is designed to keep water clear aesthetically, its not tailored to kill parasites as a priority. This model is also sold as a Green Killing Machine.

@Susan Bates if you are interested, you will find a lot of useful information in this thread http://thereefuge.com/threads/uv-sterilizer.922/

Also, from http://thereefuge.com/threads/anyone-run-ozone-or-uv.12000/#post-153444

UV lowering the disease risk is a broad spectrum term for BS. Most common aquarium rated UV systems don't produce the UV length or intensity to control even common diseases, and a few of the cheaper ones will barely control algae.
I was told it would help with white spot ...
It may 'help' but to what extent is debatable.

... why do they say that if it isn't right
That is probably a discussion you should have with the LFS :rolleyes

With this sort of discussion, I tend not to place too much weight on anecdotal evidence as you have no way of knowing what else was happening within the tank at the time. Someone will say that whitespot was eradicated from their tank by dosing Medic or Vertonex or by using a cheap UV but was it actually eradicated? What happened when the next stress event occurred?

Personally, I have never owned a UV steriliser, nor have I ever had the need. But, my reading and listening to others suggests that most of the UV sterilisers available to the general consumer are nothing but 'toys'. I will leave it to others to do their own research and come to their own conclusions.

I did a lot of research and these were one of the few for aquariums that focus on killing everything in water, if you look at the company the aquarium side of things is just a small off shoot, the problem is the bulbs are expensive, so after a year you are up for new ones if you run it nonstop. http://www.aquaultraviolet.com/home
