I like the look of that - I would do something similar if I was ever going to get a new tank.

How much distance are you planning to have from the top of the overflow to the top of the tank? Are you able to turn that right hand elbow if you need too?

What are you running - two siphons and one backup?
Sorry about all the questions:)

I was thinking 30-40mm from the top should be fine, but I havent siliconed the weir on just yet so could easily change.

And I'm pretty much just going to copy Bean animals design of 1 siphon (90% flow), 1 durso(10%), and a backup. I want to do everything possible to hopefully never end up coming home to a flooded lounge room, and have it as quiet as possible also

Sounds good - you just need to add an airline to one of the outlets to turn it into a durso.

Depending on your return pump, the water level in the tank will rise about 10-15mm above the weir so your will need to take this into account, as I am sure you already have ;). You will also want to leave a bit extra to cater for any wave action from your flow pumps.

Sumps done, split it down the center for both DSB and refugium. Justignore my dodgy silicone job

skimmer -> DSB/Fuge -> return

had a day off today so I pulled down my whole tank, cleaned of all the silicone then resealed it all with the new drilled back panel in place, all up quite a few hours worth of work, fingers crossed I did it properly. Still have to put the brace back in place and the weir where I want it

Also made a 80L tank with left over panels of glass which I can use as a quarantine tank at a later date

Good job mate, love the progress... just a few more days off work and you'll have it ready to go :D
I wish I could set it up the second the stand is finished, but I know I will have to move it in a month or so to get the flooring done. As you can see from most of my pics bare timber flooring doesn't have the nicest look to it

But yea finished up my tank today, now that i look at it I probably could have made weir a bit smaller, oh well

How much sand would I need for 1"-1.5" coverage over the 4x2 foot print?

I dont think you needed to make the weir any smaller. The bigger the better really when it comes to surface skimming and it doesnt seem to take up a lot of space so I think you made the right choice

according to that I need around 40 kg for the DT and nearly another 15kg for my DSB at 6" deep, time to start putting some pennies away

Started on my stand, done on works time using works materials. Win win. had no gas left in the welder though so it will have to wait till next week some time. This was using my $80 china spec cut off saw, which did not feel safe to use at all:). 50x50x2mm RHS with 6 mm plate gussets in all corners should be good enough I reckon

What a cracker of a thread. Well done.

Point of interest: You can also make removable fuge cells propped up by extra glass feet. Under that can become your cryptic zone.
Handy when your cleaning!
Your cell height has to be below the ATO workhorse lines obviously.

Following along bud. [Broken External Image]:http://forum.mmopurge.com/images/smilies/pop.gif

Almost done, just a couple of center supports for the tank base to go on and she's done. First time have picked up a welder in almost a year so it's not my best work. Now to get this damn bathroom finished so I can spend money on something other then the house
