Cree came out with XP-G diodes.... This was the game changer. With 140 lumens on their R5 cool white bin at 350mA LED were finally taken seriously as lighting source for our aquariums.
I remember Illumagic phasing out the XP-C diodes on their units, having to wait nearly 6 weeks as the brand new stock of XP-G came available to the market.
Naturally all manufacturers quickly changed to the latest technology.

The new XP-G diodes were able to be driven harder than the XP-C . Capable of 1500mA.
At 1000mA the R3 cool white bin produced 305 lumen, the R5 bin produced 348 lumen.
At 1500mA the R3 bin produces 406 lumen and the R5 bin 463 lumen.

I'll continue on with this content as soon as I get my thoughts together,
My apprentice decided to check Facebook on my phone and left his account open, well naturally I updated his Facebook status..... For him!
The little bugger cracked the shits and threw something at me and hit me in the eye. Two stitches later after the hospital and now I have a Christmas party to go to with a black eye :(

as you can see in the two comparison photos there is a huge difference in light output. Since Illumagic use the highest bin for each group light you can see the potential for these lights to crank out light.
You can imagine how the coral felt- used to what was perhaps the ideal amount of light and then illuminated out of their skin.

My acan collection bleached and shrank due to the strong lights and my inexperience to identify and understand the effects of bleaching.
At the time the buzz word was lighting.
It seems like it was the most popular topic of the day. Somehow everyone wanted to pump as much light into their marine tanks with MH T5 or LED. With this in mind everyone seemed on the bandwagon for some serious lighting set ups.
One thing to keep in mind in designing your tank is that there are horses for courses. Since my acan tank crash I realised that this tank could easily run off the power compacts they had over them.
My mistake came in the form of my acan acclimatisation. Of course they want more light ... And each week I would turn it up more.
Then you got to think well how much light do they really need.

Here is a couple of pictures from a reef that I visited over a year ago.
The reef runs Illumagic Blaze M-60S first gen lights without lenses.
The reef ran the four lights for about eight months, a fifth was added in the center and the first gen controllers were upgraded to the current programable controllers.I took the first photo when the fifth light was added a year and a bit ago.

Finally got round to getting these photos done.
I wanted to share the Illumagic factory Program 1 and Program 2 settings.
The Photo sequence starts with P1, there are 19 segments that come factory set, these segments can be modified as required.
