Have 4 dispars on hold for tomorrow pick too. They had 10 there all swimming in a tight ball, made me want to get all of them.

Was thinking of maybe adding a few square blocks later on too, see how it goes with these few first though.

Kenya tree frag growth, not growing as fast as some people say they do, but may be from low nutrients?

When I got it from a mate 10mm or so

Taken today under sunset so slightly blue lights, around 2"

Mine did. I brought all girls so they could sort it out themselves it only took a few weeks. His colour is awesome now.

Seems my tube for cal from the dosing pump slipped out of its holder in the sump yesterday and onto the floor. The next dose must have started a siphon and I came home to find nearly 3L of cal mix on my floor.

Did a 70L water change last night also, going to try and ramp up water changes from now. See if I can see some better growth in my SPS frags. Try for a minimum of 100L a week. Means I am going to have to start collecting myself, just to sort out my pumping now.

Also while I had all flow pumps off doing my water change, my wrasse must have seen some food sitting on the surface and smashed it jumping clean out of the water in the middle of the tank. Now he's got me worried.

more babbling to myself but just wanted to put some pics up for future/growth reference

My mate gave me this colony to try and save, as he had a heavy SPS tank and this started to brown out for no apparent reason and he was going to move his tank in the week or so following. So he knew it wasn't going to be in the best position to color it back up for a little while. This was brown as brown could be when I recieved it. The little frag with the bright polyps to the bottom right is actually a frag from this colony. You can tell how bad it looks in comparison. Pretty happy with how it's slowly bouncing back though

I've started doing around 80-100 ltrs a week on my tank mainly to dilute a little but of phos but I started doing it after my nem got a hair cut and haven't stopped. Wondering what affect it may have on dosing.

My thought pattern is that it shouldn't have any effect on dosing, the amount you dose will stay the same. As dosing will only be replacing everything your inhabitants take out of the water, leaving the levels where they started, therefore the cal, alk and mg levels of the water leaving the tank will be exactly the same as the water entering the tank. The main thing water changes will adjust is everything you dont test and dose for, which there is a lot there and getting rid of a bit of the rubbish and phos as you mentioned.

So realistically if you dosed for "everything" and had phos under control and waste management, water changes wouldnt be needed at all. But back in the real world thats never going to happen.

This hobby does my head in sometimes

Haha I get what you are saying, @Joshwaaaa . I am a firm believer that the bigger the water changes the better. It's just a case of whether you can physically (and perhaps financially!) do it.

Thats the beauty of my flow through changes, put the pump in the storage drum run hose to the DT switch on. Water runs out of the siphon into drain, nothing physical about it (because I'm lazy). I'm sure some of the fresh water will be wasted and run straight out the drain, but thats why I will be using NSW and collecting myself. Plus I figure if you do it while the water is slightly colder then DT temps it will sit lower in the water column forcing hot older water out the weir.

Looking good @Joshwaaaa I have been thinking about a flow through water change system as I am also lazy! I too thought about the wastage and then thought NSW is free so who cares! I want to change around 50% per week ideally which in my case is about 100L and this means I am going to need to step up my collections!

I still have a slightly mental yellow tang here that you could have for a song...

I have never actually seen a purple tang in person but they are stunning and I think the price reflects their rarity in the SA market!

Fish are doing awesomely, dispars are eating everything I throw at them, flake, pellets, mysis and brine. With them going mental over food I have even seen the flame hawk taking flake which I haven't seen before he normally just eats fleshy stuff. I am keeping a close eye in my levels though, as I went from 3 fish to 8 fish in one hit which would be a huge bio load change.

The wrasse spends a lot of its time swimming with the school of anthias too really cool.

I also may have just bite the bullet and purchased 2x tunze 6095's from seawatec to go with my 7096 controller i bought last year.
